Windshield Washer Fluid Inlet Problem

I bought an 04 Pathfinder LE Platinum Ed. last summer and am still learning about the parts.

I noticed that, when filling the windshield washer fluid reservoir, some but not all of the fluid would leak out. Well, when I brought the truck to a Nissan dealer yesterday for routine maintenance, I was told that there was a leak in the reservoir and it would cost $300 to replace!! No way was I going to pay that and decided to check into the matter myself.

Here's what I just observed when filling the reservoir: fluid did not leak out until what appeared to be the location where the inlet fits into the main reservoir/tank. Knowing that the inlet is a separate part from the main tank, this made me think that the inlet is not properly seated or sealed. This could have been caused by someone pressing too firmly on the cap or the unit?

In order to save myself $300, how could I go about fixing this problem? What types of seals are used, if any, at the base of the inlet?

Thanks!

Below is a link to a parts diagram of the system. I can't remember if that one had a seal or not, but if it did, it would be on the fill spout, which is sold seperate from the tank assy. Without being able to see where it's leaking for myself, it's hard to tell you exactly what you need. Some leaks can be repaired (epoxy works well) if it's a minor crack in the tank.

Yeah, I did a little bit of research and it seems that 04 has its own setup, which makes finding info about it difficult. I'll be taking off the inlet today and getting a closer look to see if there are any cracks or if it's just the o-ring that needs replaced.

Update...

I removed the spout from the tank and did not see any cracks in the vicinity of the leak. I looked at the o-ring on the spout and did not see any obvious problems. Drove a little bit to a local hardware store and picked up a new o-ring, one that was fatter than the original. Put new o-ring on the spout and put everything back together, filled to top of spout with fluid and no leak!!!!

Total cost to fix problem = 53 cents for o-ring + gas money to drive to and from the hardware store. A lot better than the 300 dollars the dealer wanted!
