Rear Seat Belt Warning

Greetings, I'm a new 2023 Rogue owner (Platinum w/ digital dashboard), and previous Murano(s) owner since 2010. At start up we get a warning light that I finally deciphered is a Rear Seat Belt (unbuckled) warning. The manual says it will go off after 1 minute or when it is acknowledged - which it does. My question is why is the warning going off in the first place, when there are no rear seat passengers or cargo?

Is this typical as an ultra safety "feature", or, might there be a rear seat weight sensor issue? It just seems silly to have to see this warning and then acknowledge it at every start up. Thanks.

Looks like that's just how the system is designed. I just looked in FSM and there are no occupant detection sensors for the rear seats. It appears that it just checks the rear buckles and if any of them are unbuckled, it gives a warning for a set period after the ignition turns on. You might just want to buckle them all when the rear seat is out of use.

This is a very annoying 'feature'. In my case the rear seats are never occupied, and to have to deal with this useless warning every time I get in the vehicle is ridiculous. I tried buckling the rear seatbelts... you definitely have to buckle all three to negate the warning... but then you have straps hanging all over. I also find the start/stop feature annoying and it is anything but seamless. I feel the jerk and hesitation starting off every single time after it has been initiated. Just like acknowledging the rear seatbelt warning each time, having to constantly disable the start/stop is also annoying. Are these annoyances things that can be fixed? They certainly aren't safety features as the distraction and hesitation is what is unsafe.

You can alleviate the seatbelt warning by putting belt extenders in the rear buckles, that way the belts themselves don't need to be attached. I think Walmart carries them:

The stop-start defaults to "on" and I don't think there's any way to change the default, but maybe some gen3 owners in here can chime in if they know some trick that I don't.

Using a seat belt extender to negate the rear seatbelt warning message was a great idea… but it only works for the outer rear seats. The center seat has a different attachment and the regular extender clips do not fit. So I still get the warning message, it just shows that the outer seats are fastened, and the rear center (unoccupied) seat is unfastened. Why in the world would Nissan insist on displaying an erroneous, annoying message every time I start the car? I thought this extender idea would be the solution but it is not. Unfortunately, I cannot find an extender clip that even fits the center seat. That would solve it.

I'm pretty sure those center seat buckles haven't changed any from earlier models, so I'd suggest hitting the U-Pullit and cutting the tongue off the strap of another center belt. It will be a plug and not an extender, but if you rarely use the back seat then it shouldn't matter. I agree about the design, that's downright annoying.

I would prefer to see what should be shown on the Vehicle Information Display as I drive off, rather than a bogus warning message. That’s just me though… but it’s not like the message is tucked away in a corner, it takes up the display so other information is not available. But again, that’s just me. You’re right that it does go away In a short time or when acknowledged.

Maybe it's one of those things like an itch that gets worse when you scratch it instead of better. I never actually noticed it until @Rogue23 pointed it out (and I recently drove one for fourteen hours on a round trip to Nissan school in Houston). Driving one into the repair bay today, all I could do was stare at it and think, "Dang, that's rude."

My wife has a 2023 Platinum with 1,300 miles. Clear up to yesterday, it DID NOT display the rear seat belt warning when starting up. Always got the welcome message, then rotating car symbol, then the normal display.

I took her car to the grocery store yesterday to get a few things. Put the 2 bags on the driver side rear seat and start the car. WTH!!! Rear seat belt warning!!!

So at the next stop, I put the 2 bags in the back and fill up with gas. Start the car again and get the blasted seat belt warning again and now it’s doing it every time now!!!

Annoying as he!! Nissan needs to fix this crap!!!!!!! And all the other stupid messages in the display like when I turn on the wipers. I don’t need a wiper mode message telling me I turned on the wipers…I can SEE they are on!

The wiper display can be turned off. Others you are having may also be able to be turned off.

I, too, have noticed this in my 2023 SV. Yesterday I paid closer attention to the digital display when starting my vehicle. As soon as the back seat notification screen appeared I pushed the ok button on the steering wheel and it disappeared before I drove off. It also happened to be raining, so I activated the windshield wipers and as soon as the wiper notification appeared, I pushed the ok button and it disappeared. So I guess it is just a matter of one extra push to clear the dashboard screen. At least that is how it worked for me.

I bought two of these, its strong but brittle metal. Mark with a marker where its flush with the seat belt when installed, put it in a vice grip, hit it hard with a hammer a few times (while wearing eye protection) and voila, pops off clean (breaks rather than bends). Sanded it a little smooth, and push them into the seat belts.

Nice and flush, and no alarm, and when you want to buckle up you just press the seatbelt orange release and they spring right out.

I haven't found any that fit in the center seat belt though, let me know if you do.

Does anyone use the rearseats and have issues with the seat belts cinching down?
I have a 2023 rogue.
I've used the rear seats while traveling and had the seatbelts on and had movement available but once they were in a locked or cinched down they stayed cinched down and would not release unless you unfastened them and remastered them. Even then sometimes it would go back to cinch mode. Is this a regular operation or are they not operating correctly?
