i have 1988 hardbody i just put new fuel pump on because after the engine gets hot it starts skipping and sputtering then finally shuts off after puffing black smoke out of the tailpipe. I have taken the neutral switch out of it because i was told that it was the reason for shutting off, that wasnt it.
also it requires to be jumped off after this happens. It has 289,000 miles on it.
Do you guys think its worth fixing?

Since you installed a new fuel pump, is the engine still sputtering and then dies? If it still does, then one or more fuel injectors may be leaking causing an overly rich fuel mixture resulting in the black smoke you're seeing. A good way to test for leaking fuel injectors is to Tee-in a temporary fuel pressure gauge between the fuel filter output side and the fuel rail. Turn the ignition key to the run position but DO NOT TRY TO START THE ENGINE. The fuel pressure reading should be around 43 psi which would be a static reading. Now watch the gauge; if it starts dropping down fast, that's an indication of a fuel injector(s) leak.

A re-manufactured OEM fuel injector costs $40 - $60 each. If your engine is a KA24E, then it's fairly easy to replace the injectors. If your engine is a VG30E, then it's a much more difficult job; for one thing, the intake manifold collector needs to be removed along with other accessories.
