i have a 89 240sx. everytime, when im cruising and making a turn, it makes a 'thump' sound from right under me, at first i thought it was my exhuast not screwed in all the way, i thought it could of been hanging around and hitting things, but it aint doin that. from a stop to go, it'll make a thump sometimes. or when im goin and need to stop due to some fool in front of me or from a red light and hafta brake hard, it thumps again. anyboyd know how to cure this crap. it's very agitating. any help will be appreciated.

by the way, i have a 89 240sx

could be bad bushings..
or the rack n pinion

i know that sometimes when the tension rod bushigns are bad they can make thumpings sounds.
when i had my 89 it did the same shit u are talkin about

but i never really checked it out.
i always thought it was the rack n pinion.

the only way to figure it out really, is to get underthere and see if you cant get someone to turn the wheels or do a movement with the susp parts to see if you cant get it to make that sound..
then listen to where its comin from.

i always thought you had to be moving in order for those sounds to be happening. anyways, ive been doin research on bushings, havent decided on one yet. ill just upgrade everything up front with suspension parts. that shouldnt be a problem

when i slam on the brakes mine doesn't make a sound but it turns hard to the left and i have to really be prepared for it or i'll probably hit the guy beside me! i just put on new tires and rims and got an alignment, anyone know what's going on?

check your pads/rotors adjust them if necessary.

im leanign towards bushings, try going over a speed bump around 8mph you should hear it then. or even if your driveway has a bump drive up it with out the breaks should react the same. or jack up the car and check the bushings

I have the same exact noise you are talking about!!!!!! It is anoying as hell. It all came about after a night of hardcore e-braking.

It come rite from under me (it sounds like) . I lifted the car up and didnt see anything broken or loose.

I am thinking it may be a suuspentsion noise as in maybe the upper strut mounts. Im still not shure i havent had time to figure it out yet but im shure someone in here has had to have experienced this before and will offer some suggestions.
