improving ride quality

Hi guys,

I have an '04 Spec-V that I bought new. I love the car -- it is fun to drive and it has been as reliable as a rock. No problems at all with 81,000 miles.

But I am beginning to get irritated with the harsh ride quality and the cabin noise. It is fatiguing to drive daily, because I feel like I'm in an unsprung go-kart whenever I hit a bump.

I'm pretty sure I can stop the noise by dynamatting it. What about the ride? Has anyone attempted to smooth it out with softer shocks or springs? What did you use, and how did it work?

I realize this is the opposite of what most of you are trying to do. I am willing to sacrifice some handling. But I don't enjoy commuting in it anymore, and if I can't fix the problem somehow I'm going to have to buy a different car.

Thanks for any info.

You could get some smaller rims with some larger sidewall's. I did that with my slammed out vdub and it made the car more tolerable. You wil get rid of road noise with different tires too, just be acreful what you pick because you could end up with something that doesn't grip the road for sh!t. I think it will be less expensive and much easier than swapping out springs/shocks. If you don't like that idea you may be able to swap suspension with someone who has a basemodel. Jump on Craigslist!

Because it is a Nissan v spec it has harsher spring and damper rates. You could go back to the standard models specs but it will mean new springs and shocks. A higher profile tyre on a smaller rim size would have been on the standard spec cars as well. The harsher ride and extra road noise is the price you have to pay for the tighter handling of the v spec cars.
