what is the best brand of Catalytic Converter and Resonators.

i dont want 2 sound like a shiet when i put on my header .. something that will provide me a nice deep tone esp since i have a 2.25 crush bend.

I've heard that random makes great cats, plus they already have the bunghole (hehe) for the O2 sensor, plus their cats fit like stock.

I have also heard that walker glasspacks make good resonators, and they are avaliable in a wide variety of lengths.

Personaly I wouldn't want one though. But I live in Nebraska so I can get away with out one. :D

my neighbor had a lot of problems with the random tech cat,
he went through like three of them and then got tired and just put his oem back one on

get an oem SE-R cat if u got a 1.6

Right

Not all of the GA16 B14's ahd a close coupled cat. On the federal they did not do that until mid 1997. So any federal cars pre mid-97 had a cat under the car just like the SE-R's. This is also why the B14 SE-R aftermarket exhausts are compatible with the GA16's that were like this.

Thus, the cat's are the same on the GA's and SE-R's.

You wil definetly need a resonator if you have a header. Magnaflow makes a real good one. You can also use a 2 inch Cherry bomb with a perforated core. They sell them at pepboys for about $20. They work good and are cheap. They don't sacrafice any power. I have them on both of my project cars. You will end up with a deep mellow tone if you use a good perforated core muffler with the Cherry bomb as a resonator. The Catco cats are the same as any high flow cats without the names stamped on the heat shields. We have cut them apart and found them to be the same. You will need to have a O2 bung welded in behind the new cat.

I have a 96 Sentra 1.6 (federal model) , i have an under car cat, so this does hold up true. I have taken off the heat shield on my car and my exhaust manifold does not look like the one on sentra.net, it looks like a really restrictive header. So you could be right again on this point.

Also, how sure are you about SE-R exhausts fitting cars like mine?

so it is either catco or random tech.... for the catalytic... and cherry bomb for the resonator...

hey movitvational1 ...

say we go pep boys and we ask for the preforated core.. how can i make sure that they giving me the right shiet or giving me crap?

Just look

louvered core
imagine a sheet with raised humps pressed into it then roll it into a tube. the sound dampening material is wrapped around it. it could be stainless packing material, mild steel, fiberglass..etc

perforated core
imagine a sheet with a lot of holes in it rolled into a tube. then the sound dampening material is wrapped around it. it could be stainless packing material, mild steel, fiberglass..etc

just look inside the resonator

From sentra.net

"When installing the Hotshot header on cars with a close coupled catalytic converter built into the manifold and/or 95 and later OBDII cars, you must get an SE-R cat or a Random Technology SE-R cat of the same year and bolt it to the header collector under the car. Screw the rear O2 sensor into the bung in the back of the appropriate SE-R cat. Now extend the wire harness for the rear O2 sensor and plug the rear O2 sensor in."

So wes are you saying that I may possibly have an Se-R cat, and it will have the 02 bung already? that would be great. I looked under my car to check it out the other day and I noticed something round, it didnt really look like a cat. atleast not like the random tech one. I was trying to see if I could see an 02 bung. I didnt notice one. I wasnt looking to well either. Maybe ill take a look this weekend.

Damn, I just ran over to NPM and I believe what I saw was a resonator, Im gonna have to buy a Cat regardless it seems.

I may have missed something but that is not entirely true wes, My car had both stock. A manifold/cat and a secondary car(under shifter). Id depends on the year and fed or cali emissions status. Late model cali emissions cars(GA's) have both. You guys wanna know a secret(not really)? The factory secondary cat from a car like mine has great flow and is perfect to use, too bad I tossed it out for my current exh and I am going to need to get another one. Anybody got one they would like to get rid of?

Um, yea. I dunno but it seems I dont have a cat. I have a federal version. And what I saw under the car, was like i said before probably a resonator. I saw the second 02 sensor, and it wasnt behind a cat. nor was there a built in cat at the bottom of the stock header(where the pre-cat, or first cat would have been, if I had a cali car.)
