My son's 94 Nissan Sentra won't go into 2nd gear. He drove into some water, had a hydraulic lock and broke the 1st piston oil skirt and bent the connecting rod. I replaced them, plus rings and bearings on all four pistons, had the head checked, etc. The car starts fine. There's a metal line off the top of the transaxle that has a hose attached which isn't connected. Is this a vent, or should it be connected to something? I don't know much about cars, but followed the instructions in the manual. Thanks in advance for your help.

Jeez. For someone who "doesn't know much about cars" you sure got a lot done. You're right in thinking that that hose is the vent for the transmission. It doesn't connect to anything either, so don't worry about that.

HELP ME TOO!!!

mines stuck right now.. so this thread is gonna help me as well.. heres the deal.. i was driving up a hill and down shifted a gear.. from second to first.. and then when i was in first at a light.. i would accel. a little.. and then slam on the gas again.. to show my brother my motor mounts are goin bad.. and you can see the stick movin as i accel.. well anyways.. then i go to shift into second.. and the car wont shift into any gear.. it will barely move but i have to REALLY force it into a gear.. its stuck in first now.. and rattles from a stopping point as if it was starting from like second or third.. (maybe its stuck in second) but anyways.. the shifter stick.. is REALLY down.. like WAY past were it should be.. is it my clutch spring? or something else? Travis

I have the same problem! If I'm understandig correctly....it's an auto tranny, and it won't upshift out of first gear but the shifter operates correctly? If this is the case.....try checking the govenor on the tranny(round cap on top with a snap ring)....the govenor has a plastic gear and it tends to applecore...hope this helps!.....jami

....this sounds like a problem my mom had in her chrysler lebaron convertible.....me n my dad were following her in our truck down the highway, and we hear WHAAAAAAAAAAAAATHUNKTHUBNK......and the car dies and coasts of the road.......checke4d it all out, started right back up no problem, but when she pulled back out, it wouldnt get out of first. so we pulled over again........again, seemed fine, it would shift through 1st n 2nd gear, and into drive fine, until it was started and moving...

anyway long story.....kinda short.......we had to tow her home in neutral with our truck.........and i didnt know much about cars then......i just remember something on the lines of a fried tranny controller

hope this kinda helps.....

with the 5 speed your engine or tranny mount might have poped out of place
