new the the whole nissan thing but ive be working on cars my whole life unfortunitly. anyhow im also a tattoo artist, and a good friend of mine is trading me a big chest piece for his 87 pathfinder. he is a body tech n what not, so the body and frame are in amazing shape. 4x4 works, interior needs a little bit of work. but over all the truck is awesome. but the engine runs rough i guess, or so he says. just wondering is anyone had any good pointers of what to look out for. i dont mind spending a little bit of money on it, seeing that im getting the truck for free pretty much. anybody out there do engine swaps er anything like that? i found a bunch of engine rebuild kits for them. but idk if there junk er what. im a vw guy so i know if i bought some aftermarket engine rebuild kit for my car itd prolly be complete junk and a huge waste of time and money. sry fer the long post, but if anyone knows about em let me know. thanks

might just need a tune up... I assume it is a V6, might find out when the t-belt was last changed (lasts about 60,000) if not sure, change it! Tune up wise, use oem cap/rotor/plugs...
side note, I just had a big chest piece done, it was my first tat.. why start small huh... I can laugh now

i think its actually a 2.4l z24 engine. its also a two door thats mainly why i wanted it. the two doors make for a pretty sweet rig, ive been buggin him to sell it to me fer about 6 yrs now. he started having engine issues and stopped driving it a couple years ago. he said he just went out and started it, and it ran at idle by itself. he said it just sounded pretty bad. does that engine have timing chains? cuz if so it may just be a bad tensioner or guide er something. and the chain is slappin around.

also with tattoos, bigger the better i think. i like people to see my work from 10-20 feet away and still be able to tell what it is. go big er go home haha

Look for a blown head gasket (often between two cylinders) and vacuum leaks, especially at the intake manifold gasket. Check the secondary ignition system and if you replace any of those parts, stick with genuine Nissan or NGK parts. Also, check the fuel injector operation; use the strobe-light affect of a timing light to check the spray pattern.
