US Spec VS. J-Spec VG30DETT

Hello--
I have searched all over this forum for this answer:

How can you tell the differance between the US spec VG30dett, and the J-spec. I am buying a car this weekend that has a J-Spec VG30DETT, and I was curious if anyone could tell me to look for something specific that will help me to recognize it as a J-spec engine.

Any help is much appreciated.

-Oil sender unit is one the opposite side.
-Back side of balance tube is opposite.
-cams are differnet
Anybody else wants to add to this?

Doesn't it also matter what year the VG30DETT came from? But I think that Spongerider got most of the obvious items. Also the JDM engines were limited to 280ps (~276hp) by Japanese self-imposed corporate regulations.

96 to 99 VG30dett does not have the variable timing and the gentlemen agreement is correct. I however suspect the Z made over 280 hp because the Jspec Z's have down pipes and we have precats and that our engines are identical.

I also have not seen any dyno proof that the Jspec engine make less then the US engines.

Yup, the JDM version should be putting out the same amount of hp as the USDM one if not a bit more. They just CLAIMED it as 280ps in Japan because of the Gentleman's Agreement.
