X trail t-spec issues

Engine cut out - The yellow engine warning light came on and I lost 95% of engine usage. All electrics were functioning as normal - lights on, radio playing etc. but when I put my foot down, it would only move around 3-4 mph. Engine/Belt squeal - The belts had been changed a few thousand miles ago but now there's a god awful squealing coming from that area of the engine. I knew this when I bought it but the receipts for the work put me at ease and thought about getting this checked at my local. The seller told me this was a problem with 'all x-trail' engines and the Nissan garage had to keeping tightening something (I've forgot what he called it, something to do with a pully?). This happens no matter what gear it's in or how fast I go. However, it does seem to quieten when it's been running for a while.

Finally the fuel gauge - The fuel gauge keeps dropping and rising intermittently. It doesn't seem to be related to any event as such, I just keep spotting it every now and again. I could brim it and it'll still happen.

I know this seems to be quite a bit to fix/ask about, but for the price I paid for it I don't mind spending a 'little' money on getting it reliable again. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Ryan,

The Check engine light, go to you mechanic and run the diagnostic. When I experience the check engine, it says camshaft sensor. But you have to run diagnostic to determine whats causing the check engine.

For the belt squeaking, i had the same problem. I already replaced the belt pulley, but what made the squealing stop is using an original belt from Nissan. replacements does not work. It has the be the original. There is some differences in the belt construction of the original Nissan and the replacement belts.

For the fuel gauge, it may also be the cause of your check engine. Run thru an engine diagnostic, you will find more info on that.

It's a strange one because the check engine light doesn't always come on when experiencing problems, only every now and again. Anyway, I took it to a trusted garage, they plugged it in and the only code that came back related to a fuel sensor which requires dropping the tank to fix. Hopefully going to get this booked in just after the new year, which, fingers crossed fixes the problem. I think this is related to the fuel gauge too. Although, it hasn't really been playing up as much on recent runs.

The belt - I think you've hit the nail on the head. The garage just tightened it up. I'll take it to Nissan when I've replenished to coffers lol.
