How old is your starter ? Did the car start after the clutch cable was adjusted (misadjusted)? You could take a look at the neutral switch which is located on the lower right side of the transaxle and you could try to backprobe it with a voltage tester. Pulling the starter out for testing is not difficult... It could be done in 10 to 20 minutes and everything is done from the top.
