the bolt pattern seems to be the same, but that's the wrong lower gasket....you'll need to go to autozone and get the pipe to manifold gasket....it's shaped like a donut and slides over the header outlet...

hello everyone!
well a friend just picked up a 98 gxe and would like to start putting cheap bolt-ons for a cheap project car. well i stumbled opon this header on ebay and i would like to know if it would work.eBay Motors: Exhaust Header Sentra 200SX 91 92 93 94 1.6 SE XE GXE E (item 350161989118 end time Feb-10-09 14:06:38 PST) will the bung line up ok? any input will be great!

thanks
randy
A header on the sentra? You know you needa bout $10000 to make this car fast right? come on dude, it's a gas saver. A header will simply do nothing for this car. Waste of money unless you are swapping the entire motor.

you know, people's definition of fast are different....Don't hate on anyone because they're trying to do something with what they already have.....anyone can take an already fast car and make it faster, but unfortunately, they don't stand out like those who take those grocery getters and turn them into something great.....you know, people used to say the same thing about the pre-1965 Nova's, but you look around now, and people have done miraculous things with them as well.....If you're not going to offer some kind of encouragement or advice for members of this board, don't post at all....go insult some high school kids to feel better about yourself

First off, you have 3 posts and I have offered my 2 cents and helped many members on this board. My opinion doesn't have to matter, but I am allowed to speak whatever I want. Including the fact, that you didn't get my whole point. Adding a simple header won't even give a 5 HP gain on this stock motor. These are the same people that think a COI give HP when they actually do nothing but increase air flow and let in more dust. I proved this in a previous thread of mine. Buying a header is even more worthless if you aren't going to replace the rest of the exhaust. Header to stock exhaust would simply restrict all the flow from the header out. Again, to do this right, you need about $1000 or more in performance parts. This worth it to get maybe 5HP out of the whole deal? And yes 5HP is correct if you have ever done a dyno test.

Oh, and since when was a Nova ever slow? Even the 6cyl. version pushed more HP than this car and I don't want to even hear about the v8 addtions. Some of the big blocks put out over 400HP.

Next time, before you bash me, do your homework. I am a mechanic and only make sense to what I can. :loser:

Oh snap, you got me! My mere three posts mean I have so little knowledge over your vast insight to everything! I was only hinting that you shouldn't be so condescending when offering whatever 2 cents you may have to put in, but to each their own. Perhaps if you had offered the rest of the information that you possessed in the first post, it might not have seemed so bad. And yes, you do have a right to say whatever it is you may want to say, and I respect that. I respect that so much that I have enlisted to put my life in harms way to protect your basic unalienable human rights. I myself, am a thermodynamic propulsion specialist, specifically on the T58-GE-16 and 16A, since we're spouting off job titles. And you didn't quite grasp what I meant about the whole Nova thing. I meant within their own right while they were being produced, that at least a good majority of people called it a grocery getter, and ventured off to find something faster, while a few who thought outside the box, decided to take what they already owned, and make it something to compete with others who bashed on their idea before. And yes, I have nothing better to be doing today than arguing with you. I'll even apologize for the high school kid thing, just because I'm that nice of a guy.

As soon as i saw "98 gxe" and mentions of bolt ons, i knew that guy was gonna be in here bashing it.

But yeah, hes right. He has the right to say whatever he wants. You know what? So do I! So i suggest you stop posting unless you change the way you address your responses. Over 400 posts? You must have pissed alot of people off. What do you say to this, sir? I have a 2000 s-10 2.2L 5spd. I put an exhaust and intake. Yeah its still slow, but its a little snappier and runs better with the A/C on too. You gonna bash me for "trying to make a slow car faster?" ha. I even wanted to put pulleys and an electronic fan on it. To me, anything to make it QUICKER (read: not necassarily faster). its a slug passing people on the freeways or highways, any help is appreciated. Understand that as it applies to any weak 4-cyl.

sorry to threadjack. Back on topic, wouldnt an intake (short ram air, not COI)+catback exhaust (the stock sentra 98 gxe should have 2 cat converters, chop one off and you'll still pass smog. my friend did that and switched to a 2-inch piping from the cat back instead of stock 1.5inch), and aftermarket exhaust help at a decent rate? Its not even an expensive set up. Cheap ebay intake, $200 for the catback+exhaust muffler (at least thats what my friend paid). Less than $300, and if im not mistaken this has the potential to improve mileage.

headers in that mix might further add to the potential improvement, but im not sure how much if any.
