Well I have an 89 B12 sentra, it looks a little different to your guys ones but for the most part it's the same. The only mods I have done so far is a high flow exhaust system and I REALLY want to get some more power from the thing. I don't want to lose reliability obviously but any ideas would be great, it's got a 1.6L carbyed engine in it (GA16 I think). also does anyone have any ideas how to get the thing started?? it's a real pain, if I don't sit on the gas pedal while I crank it, 9 times outta 10 it wont start  Any help would be great!!

I had a similar problem on a 1990 ga16i (with tbi) and I assumed it was something wrong in the fuel system. Luckily, before I started tearing that apart I checked the computer error codes and it reported a problem with the coolant temperature sensor. I replaced that ($20 part) and the problem and others were completely resolved. You said you had a carb model and I don't know if these have a computer, but if so try checking the error codes.

Remeber that the TBI looks like a carb. Check the engine code on the little plaque on the passenger side of the fire.

TBI (throttle body fuel injection) isnt a carb though.
It is in fact a GA16i that you have.
For the most part all of us here at the forums are still tryin to figure out how to make more power since there isnt much commercially available.

Welcome to the forums by the way!

I own a 1990 sentra xe with the GA16i like some of you do in these forums. I've tried researching and testing some parts to increase power, but the results have been less than breathtaking. Truthfully you'd be better off swapping in an engine. Some of you would probably be thinking that that's too much money or whatever, but the bottom line is that swapping in an E15t or CA18DE(T) or even an SR20DE gives you more power and a better platform to work off of. For example, by the time you've spent $400 on custom headers $100+ on cams, $150 on an exhuast , etc. you could've spent that money on an engine swap and gained a lot more power. Seriously, what's the point of spending $1000+ on bolt ons that'll give you like maybe 8-10 plus horsepower at the peak when you could spend that on a helluva lot better engine. Just something to consider.

With the GA16i youll proably be best off Turbo Charging or Supercharging to make power.
There are cheap ways to do this and it has been done.

Basically it all depends on what you want from your car. If your looking for a Huge horsepower car that'll pull 11's and 12's at the drag strip then an engine swap is for you.
If your just looking for something that is sporty, fun to drive, handles well, and still has bulletproof reliability then modding up your stock engine may not be such a bad idea.

Wow that was a pretty tight little turbo setup he had going there. I've never seen that kind of thing done to the GA16i done before. I'm considering pursuing this kind of project. Does anyone have any experience with this sort of thing or know of who I could get a hold of? Any info would help.

I agree w/b12er' in the point that if you're going to dump a grand on upgades, why not got to a nicer engine. If you're into looks a CA18DE would look extremely nice under the bonnet. It also makes people ask questions because most people/ricers never seen the engine that powers the Japanese Silvia/180SX. It amazes them to see this engine stuffed in a front wheel drive car. Most of the younger guys didn't even know that the old school 87-89 pulsar SE's carried the CA twin cam series motors in 1.6 and 1.8litres respectfully. Everybody knows what an Sr20, GA16i/de, B16a, B18a-c, H22A and an RB26DETT is, but when you mention a CA18DET and they get a neutral look on theirface like "What in the hell is that". I'm proud to lift my hood after I've put the spank-package or spankage down and am not bashful to say that it's only 1809cc's. Choose your weapons wisely guys.............

Don't worry, I know what a Pulsar SE is because my 1990 sentra has all of your car's mechanicals and electrical's in it :D If you need the CA18DET engine I have two, but I'll give you more details if you email me off list. This would be a very easy swap for you, but email me and I can play the music you want to hear.
