Today i gave my friends car a jump because his battery died. I noticed that after i hooked up the juper cables my engine made a very loud screach that sounded like it came from the belts. I remember a while ago it did the same thing when i helped someone else get their car started. Has anyone noticed this with other Z's? It also does it sometimes when i first start the car... i replaced the belts recently, so it isn't just old belts... Any ideas? Thanks!

Probably put a strain on the alt and made her squeal. But it shouldn't have. Do you notice any sqeeking with the headlights and AC on at the same time?

NO... never... only when i start it up sometimes. And when I jumped my freind's car. It's really wierd.

You need a new alt. Or will soon. Lucky to find out now, not stranded on race day like I was.

My car charges fine though... Some people have been telling me it was the water pump but that sounds really dumb because jumping someones car shouldn't put a load on the water pump... What if i just spray a shit load of WD40 in my alternator? Maybe that would help...

Is your Z a manual? Does the sounds get louder when you step on the peddle? Where in the engine bay does the sounds come from?

Yes my z is a manual, Yes the sound gets louder when i step on it. I don't know where in the engine bay the sound is comming from because it's so freaking loud!!! It sounds like the front, somewhere around the belts but i'm not sure from where... could be the alt, maybe... But not sure exactly.
