My valves are ticking in my mostly stock 1993 240SX Convertable. At least it sounds like they are, but when the engine is hot, the noise ceases to be. Would my vavles only tick when the engine is cold? Should I maybe try tightening them?

It's OK to get some slight ticking from valves when the motor is cold. As the motor warms up, valve assembly components expand thus reducing the valve-to-cam lobe clearance.

There is nothing to tighten. You can measure the clearances with feeler gauges. Clearance adjustment is set with shims. Different thickness shims are used to change the clearances. The shims are available from Nissan.
