Synthetic motor oil is superior to dyno oil so it should provide smoother operation. Just make sure you're using the proper weight oil, like 5W30 or 10W30.

I heard that the "thinner" nature of synthetic can magnify any pre-existing leakage problems.

Maybe it is struggling because it all leaked out? lol

Agree. What weight did you use. Also, If you had any prior oil leaks, you need to fix prior to using any fully synthetic oil. Synthetics are much thinner than conventional.
