YOu would want to change the timing control to get the best results from the cams, when the VTC kicks in at rpm's. On my 92, JWT programs the ECU to kick in at intervals for the max air-fuel. because you are adding more air now, you want the injectors to spray the fuel at optimum time at low and high and mid RPM. so a programmer is best after the cam swap.
