Seems a few people have had seatbelt problems lately and I said just go to the dealer and have them replace it for free because of the federal mandate regardless of time or mileage. Well, not quite.

So... here's the deal: This unlimited lifetime warranty applies ONLY to the actual belt itself, such as if it's frayed etc. So if you have a bad retractor, which is what a couple of ppl were talking about, it isn't covered. Pretty worthless warranty, huh?

Back in the late '90's, Nissan had seatbelt recalls for several models, including the B12's and others. In the recall bulletin, it clearly states that althought the recall is for the orange release button in the buckle assy, all seatbelts front or rear, are covered for life. This includes the retractors, if they aren't reteacting properly. I have it in writing, and I have used it on several occasions. The service writers always tell you they're not covered. Then you present the recall bulletin and they change their tune quickly. ;)
