There are many of us on these forums with boosted GAs nowadays. I just finished mine the other night and finished tuning it last night. Mine is a pieced together kit; TSI turbo manifold, SR20DET T25 turbo, A'pexi S-AFC 2 (air flow converter), Walbro 255lph fuel pump, sequential blow-off valve, wideband (borrowed), and stock injectors (yes stock flow injectors that don't run lean at 8 lbs of boost!). Altogether, my cobbled kit cost me about $500; the most expensive piece was the downflow pipe from the turbo elbow to catalytic converter! eBay is great for finding steals.

I got lucky and got a lot of parts from a friend with plenty of left-overs from his personal turbo projects. If you've turbo'd plenty of cars, I am sure you have piping and couplers laying around that you can re-use or spare. There are other members who bought the entire TSI turbo kit (w/h T20 turbo) or the Hotshot kit previously made. So far the biggest turbo I've seen run on a GA16DET was a T3, but I know most guys run the T28.

Jim Wolf Technology makes a good deal of products for the GA16DET, including turbo cams, turbo-tuned ECUs, and all sorts of other miscellaneous things you might need (adjustable fuel pressure regulator, performance clutches, etc.). They seem a bit too pricey for me, though. That's why I opted with an S-AFC 2, which is very limited in terms of injector compensation (only +/- 50 in either direction). But, if you run low boost like me, and have good injectors (I am going to install 259cc ones later on in the week), you shouldn't have a problem at all.

My engine runs splendidly with the turbo on it. I am not one to push things, so I forsee my GA16DET lasting a long time as I will be sure to maintain it. I am also running only synthetic motor oil, and have thoroughly given my engine the once-over in regards to components to ensure long life. I changed the water pump about a month ago (in prep for the turbo), replaced all my coolant hoses, checked all my vacuum lines (the few I have), did a compression check on all cylinders, put in NGK V-power plugs (gapped for turbo and soon to be replaced with Iridiums), checked the front and rear main seals, changed my gear oil in transmission, welded tapped oil pan, NPT to BSPT adapter fitting, installed a Walbro 255lph fuel pump, put on a new Z32 300SX TT fuel filter, and just basically checked everything out.

In regards to the auto(tragic) transmission, I don't know how well it would handle boost. Low boost should be fine on it, but I wouldn't push it. Japanese car companies tend to make pretty poor automatic transmission since standards are their mainstay everywhere else in the world. I would do a filter kit change on it, and just make sure everything is in good working order. You might even want to install an transmission cooler in case things start to get a little hot.
