Does the 1.6 liter have a belt or a chain.

If its a belt is it a big job to change out, special tools needed?

Bought the car used it has 101 k.

Thanks Tom

It's a timing chain. The chain is supposed to last the lifetime of the car, and changing it is like a week long job, so I heard.

Just a reccomendation, you may want to read up on Sentra.net. There are some great articles about the B13 and the underwhelmingly powerful GA16DE Engine. :D

It's a chain like mentioned before, 2 actually since it's a DOHC engine. I'll be replacing my upper chain, tensioners, etc. in a few weeks since the timing chain guides are gone and it rattles like crazy. Only 116,xxx miles but I know that it is the guides as the same thing happened on my mother's Sentra.
My car hasn't been run for 4 months so I'll need to take extra care when staring...oh well. I'll get it on the road again soon.
You can purchase timing chain kits from www.courtesyparts.com
