I bought a 96 xe with 144000 on it, and I can hear a rattle in the front sometimes. When I hit the pedal it quiets down, and then it continues. Sometimes it dont do it at all.
It almost sounds like a bolt is sitting on top of the exzaust manifold, but everything is tight, and the tentioner pullys are in good shape. Would this be the timing chain? What are my options, and is the timing tentioner hydraulic?\
Thanks in advance

I called nissan for the parts, since I'll be tackling this myself, and they stated their are 2 chains running together? I also asked if it was a hydraulic tentioner, and they were unclear of that. This truck was produced in the early part of 96. I was wondering id a filter with a check valve will produce enough pressure to operated the hydraulic tentioner to it's capacity? I never heard a chain rattle only when it wants to, and stay quiet half the time. ( weird)
