I have a WAI on my car and I just let the IAT(Intake Air Temp) sensor just hang there. I have seen zero problems with this. Think about it, as long as it is close to the filter(mine is about 2" away). It will get the same temp air passing over it as the filter is sucking in. You should be all set.
