my car did not come with a tachometer so i bought a autometer tach with a shift light. i am am about to install it soon and i was wondering if anyone had done this before and if there were any complications i should be concerned about before i tear up the dash and run into problems?

i appreciate any suggestions

It's really easy to do. This is how I wired it.

Power-spliced into the cigarette lighter power line
Light-Tapped a dash light line
Ground-Forget where exactly put any bare metal should work.
Signal-There are two wires going into the ignition coil. Tap into the one that is NOT black. You are going to have to make a hole in the firewall, but I cheated a bit. Disconnect the clutch cable from the pedal, and remove the little plate the cable runs through. You can just drill a hole through that and reinstall it.

Mine just had a switch on the back for 4, 6 or 8 cylinder. The shift light should be set to 5500 RPMs

BTW a stock e16i should rev to 6000RPMs safely, but there isn't any power above 5500 anyways. Just so you know.

yo rice , whats the dif betweem the i and the s motor. are they signifying stick or auto or what . different no of valves?
