what could it be if it was leaking near the alternator? I dont think its the valve cover gasket but i'm not sure

mine has a bunch of sludgey looking oil right on that flat spot near the passenger side headlamp to the left of the water resovoir. i'm going to check put it on a lift and check it out next semister when we go back to school. how much does a front crank seal cost anyway? just the crank seal not labor i can get that for free.

i myself don't have a clue. i'm going to do it in autotech and let my teacher tell me how to do it then use his stuff since they got lifts and all that.

i still don't get how you clean a modern day engine. wouldn't the water from rinsing away the dirt and the cleaning product mess up the sensors and electronics in the engine bay.
