If you have oil near the alternator I would have to say it's the front crank seal. When it leaks, the oil gets slung around. I have seen some with the alternator just saturated with oil. It can cause the alternator to go bad. As for the distributor leak, I have seen distributors go bad from oil. Those are not cheap to replace.
