As you get out of your vehicle, hold on to a metal part of the door, like the door handle. Any built up static charge on your body will drain off to your vehicle.

As you drive around, the friction between the body of the Pathy and the surrounding air is enough that the Pathy gets charged up with static electricity. Touch any exposed metal and you'll probably get a shock. Some vehicles are worse than other, and usually it's worse in the dry winter months.

If it's really an issue, then you can install a ground strip on the Pathy...that little strip that you see hanging from the rear of some people's vehicles. It'll keep the Pathy grounded and won't let a static charge build up.

The trick is to place your hand on a metal part of the door before you set foot on the ground. I have done this religiously for the past year, and I haven't suffered a single shock.

Before, when I would step out and then grab the door to shut it, I would almost always get a good zap in cold weather. One time I set foot on the ground and then touched my calf muscle against the bottom of the door frame and was shocked that way. It was such a strong, pin-point zap to my leg muscle that I was limping for several hours after that. lol
