i tried looking around the forums for info about this problem... so please bare with me.

on idle (hot or cold) my friend's QR25DE engine makes a "squeeky" noise. it sounds like something's loose. does anyone know where that noise is coming from? could it be the fan belt?
does the QR25DE make funny noises?
in dire need of assistance...
trying to limit the use of nissan services (they're not that bad here).

I find my engine loud in all situations. I have seen (mainly on the 1.8l) loose belts causing "squeeking" noise. I'm not even sure how many belts there are on the QR25, I could go look, but I'm lazy. Basicly you should lift the hood while the car is ideling and look at the belts, if they wobble then that is most likely it. If not, just take it to the dealer, thats what warrenties are for.

1 drive belt.

i say it's the belt but since i havent heard the sound, i cant say for sure. check the condition of the belt. if it looks good, see if you can confirm the noise is from their. if it is cracked, frayed or torn, then it is time to replace. if the belt is making the noise, i believe that we can ourselves adjust the belt but ill have to check that was my fsm to verify.

how many miles do you have? and can you describe the squeek any better?

well, it has about 19k - 20k in it. one of my car-savy friends did say it caould be the belt. the noise is coming from the passenger side area of the engine.

since we're on the topic about the noise, there's somewhat of a clanking noise coming from the driver side engine area.
on idle (cold or warm), it makes a clanking noise.
when i step on the clutch, it disappears.
it returns after i let the clutch go.
my car-savy friend said that it could be the flywheel.

the clanking noise could very well be your axel. i just had this problem, right after i put my CAI in, i got a rattle. when i was off gas just coasting. i braced up the CAI and still! well, it turns out my axels were bad (but i have 114000 miles on my car) well, it runs like a champ now.

Sounds to me like you should take your car in for a checkup. Assuming that you are still under warrenty.

dont spec v's have a breather hose or something like that. I remember when i was installing my CAI i read a guide that pointed out a loose hose and said to leave it loose because this was a breather hose and was supposed to be loose. Maybe that hose might be clogged and might be making a whistling noise.

ok here's the update...

i finally got to get my car diagnosed. here are the results from nissan:

they said that the clutch, flywheel, and bearings need to be replaced.
good thing it's warrantied.
the only thing not warrantied is my fan belt. oh well.
they also said that my headlights are warrantied because of haze forming inside.
they need 1-1.5 days to get the repairs done.
man! that's too long! :(
i'll leave it next week 'cause this is the only ride i got.

Depends on the damage to the clutch and how the damage was incurred. If it can be proven that the flywheel (Which WAS mentioned) was the cause of the clutch's damage then it is warrantied. If it IS merely wear and tear (Especially from some MAROON that can't drive stick) then it's not. I believe that is how it works but I could be wrong. Also doesn't Nissan cover all parts up to 20K MI.? I can't remember it's been so long since THAT warranty ran out on me LOL all I got left is the 60K MI. on the engine (Fast approaching THAT one too).

i forgot to post the results of my situation, so here it is:

upon diagnostic, they found that there was gear oil leaks on the differential seals. it was coming from the transmission. they replaced the clutch assembly and release bearing.
i also had both my headlamps replaced because of condensation from the inside.

after the work, i testsed out my car. oh how much i've missed it. excellent service from nissan!
