Had 2 things happening with my 91 Sentra EX 5-speed, and now I'm wondering if the two are connected. For one thing, the car has been stalling when I depress the clutch and come to a stop. Secondly, I occasionally hear a whirrling sound from the dashboard area. The whirlling reminded me of a previous vehicle I owned in which the speedometer cable had bound or broke, so I removed it on the Sentra to see if that was causing the whirrling. Well, the car began stalling every time I took my foot off the gas. Got it home and put the cable back on -- doesn't stall any more like it was when the cable was out. Can anyone tell me if there's a connection between the two things here? If so, maybe the cable was causing the car to stall in the first place??

I doubt your speedo cable was causing your car to stall. If you're stalling when coasting and the revs are dropping because you're clutch isn't engaged, then I'd check your timing.
