Did you just brake the tabs off the front, and still have the metal clips at the rear? If so I had the same problem. To fix it I just drilled a hole in the console at the front of where the shift boot sits. Then I drilled a hole under the rubber on the bottom of the boot(front and center). Last I took a zip-tie and tied the boot to the console using the hole that I drilled to run it through. After that the rear of my boot snapped back into place and there is NO way a person can tell that its zip-tied.
