...in the middle of a move from Lousiana to NC, so the truck sat for about 5 days. Started it this morning, and it ran ragged for the 1st minute or so. Sounded like it wasn't banging on all cylinders. No sure if it was starved for gas, or maybe electrical? Just wondering if this is a red herring of other issues that should be addressed? Carb or jet cleaning maybe? Any info appreciated...

Check for a bad plug wire. Could be old and getting damp after setting a few days. Possibly a fouled plug. Also, if the check valve in the vacuum brake booster is bad, the engine will run ragged until the booster draws down.
As for timing chain replacement at 125K, mine had 220K before I changed it, and the chain and tensioners were still fine. The only reason I changed it was I had hit a deer and already had the hood, grill, and radiator out. Figured I already had most of the work done.

Ouch!
But, still not much more than one payment on a new car. That is how I justify working on my little truck, if I am putting $100 a month into it I'm still saving money. Next, I'll go through the front end. I can replace almost everything for less than $200 and 1 day's time wrenching. I have a spare differential that I am planning on going through and checking, replacing the seals. I have a rebuildable engine that I am goint to gradually rebuild and stash in the shop. No reason I can't drive this truck for several more years.
