I’ve noticed some oil residue around the fill plug on the rear differential. Had it changed around a year now. Just happened to see this today and did not really notice this before.

No leaks or drips though. Vehicle has 176,000 miles. No differential noise either.

Put some anti-seize lubricant on the threads of the plug.
Thanks Rogoman, I removed the plug and put the lubricant on the threads and tightened back. Just hoping I don’t see anymore residue.

Is there any other way oil can sweat on the face of the differential in that area?

Nothing is coming from around air tube either. I assume the plug as I changed fluid and year around and seepage is around area of that plug.

Actually, you're supposed to put RTV sealant on the threads of the fill and drain plugs. If my memory is correct, the torque spec is 50 PSI.
