Heres the story. I got this '90 4 door automatic from my aunt for free because it was taking up space in her driveway and she wanted it gone. The motor is a GA16I, and I can ony seem to find GA15 motor everywhere I look online. Ive seen a few threads here stating that the motor is a direct replacement, except to swap over the GA16I intake manifold, and the header. My problem is the tranny. I cant seem to find an auto anywhere, and every GA15 motor ive seen comes with a manual tranny. On average, what do you guys think i can expect to pay for an auto tranny? Also, I see TBI in a bunch of threads, but Im not sure what you guys are talking about. I think maybe Throttle Body Injection? I just want to make sure because that air filter cover makes it look like a carb. Any insight you guys can give me would be very much appreciated because I pretty much dont know anything about this car at all.

Also, has anyone heard of this business?

They have the GA15 motor listed for $225, but Im pretty sure thats just the motor, no tranny, so I need to call them and inquire whats included with that motor for that price.

Hey man welcome to the forums.

Yes the GA15 is a direct replacement. I havent found an auto tranny since I have been looking for a manual tranny. I found a auto tranny somewhere but I think it was 400 dollars. I found a manual on a website for 95 bucks! Then I found one on eBay for 150. Still a good price for both. You should consider turning yur sentra into a project car and converting it to a stick. You will get more power, better guess mileage, and greater reliability. I have looked at the website you listed. Pretty good price for a motor...but im very skeptical about it being so low priced. But they say they are compression tested and cleaned. Where did you see a GA15 that came with a manual tranny?I might want to look into that.

Thanks for the welcome and the reply. I was beginning to think that with 17 veiws and no posts since the last time i checked the topic, I wasnt gonna get any help. Im not really planning on doing anything to the car really, other then getting it running. I plan on getting the car running for my mom, so thats why im really trying my hardest to find an automatic tranny. I wanna keep everything simple for her, and shes extremely stubborn in that she doesnt wanna learn stick.

I cant say where I saw the manual tranny, because I myself didnt look into it and find them. My cousin did, and told me all he found were manuals. From what I remember, I think he went to rebuilt/remanufactured motor sites. Then when I looked myself, I found that site, which is a used engine importer.

I think i might be able to get away with a compression test (hopefully itll check out), and a full tune up on the motor. Just looking at the motor is doesnt look bad, just oil everywhere. My main concearn is the tranny. My aunt said the car got stuck in second, and had to driven that way for a few miles in order for her to make it home. So who knows how bad it is.

If the GA15 is a direct replacement, can i swap an auto GA16I tranny onto it??? I need to know which auto tranny will work with the GA15 if my motor is in fact junk.

The GA15 is a direct replacement motor for your GA16i. You will need to use the intake and exhaust manifolds from your current motor, but other than that, it should work fine with any GA16i transmission auto or manual. This motor has just been recently used here by a couple of members. Do a search on GA15 and you should be able to find some details. Everyone that has installed one seems to have had good luck with them so far.

is the ga15 faster than the ga16??
that depends, if your Ga16i has 200k on it and is puking oil, than yes, otherwise it is pretty much just a comparable replacement.

most people that have used it have said it feels more peppy, but this could be partly due to the fact that it replaced an already sick or dying engine.

Holy Crap! I pay more an hour in tax! Yeah, what probs are you having on your car? Major oil leak? search crank main seal. That crank seal behind the crank pulley was problematic. Blown head gasket? Get some metric sockets (10-22mm ought to cover every bolt on the B12) and an allen socket (I forgot which size fits the head bolts - 6mm allen?). Timing problem? . . . um, I haven't gotten that yet. But the guys on this forum can fix just about everything.

You should go ahead and get the used GA15 and invest some money and have your auto rebuilt. You can have a good feeling that your tranny aint gonna shit you and you wont be ripped off buying a used auto tranny. I dont like buying used auto trannys because they are very compicated and MOST of us know that the Japanese make some really shitty automatics (in my opinion).

The manual in a 89-90 Sentra is very easy to drive and maintain. I just started driving a stick with my new 05 Sentra and I had it down really well within a week. My mama drives a stick...if that old woman can drive a stick...yur mom sure as hell can drive a stick.

Just do some research. Be on the lookout for a tranny off of Ebay. Expect to pay from 400-800 for a tranny. If you can find a Sentra in the junk yard with an auto with less than 60k on it...you are good to go....GET IT!

Puking from where? E16i? I had a cracked oik sender that puked pretty bad. Got a 16s around here that pukes from the cam seal. Also, I notice that you got to crank down the oil filter a little tighter than usual.

From what i got form the guy it burns oil. im thinking harvesting the head off my 90 sentra and slam it into the pulsar and see if that fixes it. sentra is pooped and body isnt in good condition so im not gonna mess with it. but the pulsar is in far better condition. sound good guys?
