Hi all, Recently I got my manual '90 300ZX out of winter storage and turned it on, the engine ran fine (as usual) but I noticed that the rear wheels were spinning slowly even though the car was in neutral. The car is on 4 axle stands with all the wheels removed, I could easily stop the wheels from spinning by holding onto a brake rotor.

Is this normal behavior for a manual? I thought that when in neutral, the wheels were disconnected from the engine.

Thanks

There is still movement being transmitted through the input shaft of the transmission. From there it goes through the syncros, which is how that little bit of movement gets transmitted. Same thing happens on my car.

Also you'll notice if you just push (without the clutch pedal down) the shifter to the 1st position a bit they will move. Just don't try to force it in gear lol
