yeah okay. I did it last night. it was very easy. I just wasn't sure about how the tensioner bolt/bracket worked...I've never had that on any of my (old) cars. The Haynes book is vague at best, so I was just trying to get a little advice before heading home where there is no internet connection.
anyway, for posterity (for anyone else searching for how to do this basic repair), here are some things I observed:
- loosen the bolt on the "idler" pulley, which is the one on the right, highest up on the engine. I had to tap the bolt with a hammer to get the pulley to ride down the bracket. repeat until it's far enough down the bracket to get the new belt on.
- new belt can go on without removing the fan shroud or anything else. just carefully feed it around the fan blades.
- new belt goes on, tighten the adjusting bolt on the idler pulley until the belt has about a 1/4" deflection up there.
yeah, it was easy.
