if he offered to do it for $30, friend or not, I'd be wary of the quality of work he does ;)

Basically, let me put it to you this way:

Unless you've done every n/a mod available to us already, including intake, header, exhaust, crankshaft pulley, grounding wires, SAFC, ES motor mount inserts............it's not worth doing.

Your best bet is to pursue those mods that I listed first, because only after those will you really be able to take full advantage of a real port and polish.

Oh, and to put it in perspective, the work your friend would charge you $30 for usually runs over $1000 from most reputable shops

good luck!

well, for $30 he risks getting work done that could damage the internals, cause detonation, or other problems.

and what happens when he does have problems and might need a new engine? His friend won't want to cough up the money for a new engine after he "helped out" this guy for $30.

Hence why I say he should be wary. Port and polish on stock ecu and no fuel management isn't wise anyways.

I'd just research his previous work and get some sources. I know he's your friend and means well, but if something gets screwed up it could cause major problems. Sure, it's hard to turn down work like that for $30, but be smart about it ;)
