Hi everybody. I just got a postcard for 15% off 60K maintenance for my 2003 Pathfinder SE.

[*]Is this maintenance necessary or just a money-maker for the dealership?
[*]What gets done?
[*]What's the ball park cost?

THANKS!

RE: 60K Maintenance

Good question. I always look at the owners manual and check the scheduled maintenance of my vehicle. What is really important is changing the oil every 3K or 5K miles religiously.

Synthetic oil is also good however, it will cost you more money. I normally use 10W30 Penzoil during the summer months and 5W30 during cold season. Just make sure you have the proper level or amount of oil you are replacing, with or without oil filter change.

Oil change, trans flush/filter, cooling system flush/possibly hoses (at least they should), new belts, differential gear oil change, complete tune up, cabin filter change, check charging system, check A/C system, check brakes, check exhaust, etc.
Basically, aside from the fluid changes/tune up, they are supposed to check out (inspect) the whole vehicle.
It's actually cheaper to have an independent shop do it.
Check the owners manual for the 60,000mi service list and have an independent shop (that you trust) do the work.
