painting rear trunk piece

I have a sentra and i want to paint the ugly red reflector piece on my trunk the same color of my car, which is platinum gold. i bought some duplicolor paint at advanced autoparts. This paint is for nissans but its platinum metalic. it looks pretty much the same as my paint but a little darker. i test painted a scratch on the bottom of one of my sideskirts and its just a little noticibly darker. would it match if i painted the trunk piece and then work with a couple coats of clear coat, or will it be still noticible? also is there any other color that would match, and what would a totally different color look like such as mettalic blue?

You can go to a body shop and they can either find the matching paint, or mix it for you, heck, they can even paint that piece for you. I don't know about metallic blue, little to loud for me, black is always nice, but it's your car.
black might look good but im afraid another color would look like i got that piece from the junk yard
if the paint looks a tad differant on a scratch it will look very very bad on a peice that is 4x24 inches. it will be so noticable its not even funny.

i would use black vynal from a vynal shop and make it black, that way you dont get any paint runs and it wont chip/crack and you can simply take it off if you dont like it. to make it match i would also black out my tail lights.

take a picture of the trunk piece and use image editing software such as photoshop to change the colors around, that way you'll see how your car will look with the piece in different colors without actually painting it.
