I went to autozone with the understanding i was buying the silicone gasket. They had an actual rubber gasket... IS this something others have used? There was also what i assume is an oil drain plug washer and an o ring. I have no idea on the o ring.

Nissan specifies RTV silicone gasket for the oil pan. But, you actually got a physical gasket? And it is rubber not cork. I knew Felpro made a cork gasket for our oil pan, but not rubber. How much was that gasket?

I resealed my oil pan about a year ago with Silicone RTV, and it leaks like hell now. I have been concidering getting a real gasket instead.
Sorry about the confusion it is the cork gasket. Why would anyone not use it? It seems a lot easier to use than the RTV

Really? RTV normally lasts through it all, I have taken my oil pan on 2 occasions and both times resealed with RTV without issue!

I am weary of the gasket as I would think it would be a PITA to install.
My oil pan gasket was replaced when I bought it used with the cork gasket. I replaced it again a year ago due to leaks. It was totally baked and brittle. I used the recommend grey silicone purchased aftermarket at Advance. The specific recommendation of Nissan is 999MPA7007. It will say it meets this spec on the package. So far, so good. I see a little oil around parts of the gasket material, but when changing oil I usually make a mess. Seems to be working OK.
I thought a cork actual gasket would be esier than he silicone//

Depends how you look at it. Less messy for sure, however still have to clean it the same and because of how the oil pan sits getting the cork gasket to line up over all the holes in the oil pan might be a challenge. Never tried it as I always use RTV, but I can see it not being fun. Especially with the way the transmission side studs are...
