heres a question for anyone who has replaced their o2 sensor. Is it ok to get a sensor without the long wires and connectors on them or should I get the one with the oem style connectore and long wires.
my reason for asking is just to save money.

I should mention that I own an 87 hb sev6. It has a 4 wire sensor. One wire is solo and has a single connector and the other 3 are together in a connector.

I unplugged the conectors and the truck seems to run ok.....with it plugged in the truck runs crappy. I also get no check engine light or code on the ecm.
Thanks,

Bart

I'd say buy the real one for this reason: think about all the abuse (heat, driving wind, water splash, vibration, etc) that the O2 sensor is going to take under the hood of your truck. Your old one took that kind of punishment for how long? I think it's worth the extra $30 or so dollars. Besides, a better O2 sensor will pay back the difference over time in gas savings.

Yeah, the splice-n-dice O2 sensors generally don't work as well as the OEM ones.
