hey im new to the forums. i drive a 92 nissan sentra se ga16de motor.
it has recently starting sputtering when i step on the gas. i replaced the plugs and wires. i put the new bosch +2 platinum plugs in and i replaced the fuel filter. it is still sputtering and lacking lots of power. what else cold the problem be? i currently have it at the muffler shop having the cat conv. removed and replaced with a test pipe, someone told me the cat might be clogged up so i hope this is all the prob is. but other ideas would be appreciated.

search on the forum. There are many posts with issues like yours. I would check the throttle body and the MAF brefore replacing the cat.

if i didnt search i wouldnt have posted and i dont know what half the initials stand for on there. i know like the mas and easy stuff. but the new problem is when i turn my car off my battery keeps dying slowly so i know i need a new battery. but, when i got in it today to take it to get worked on at my friends dads it would not start only made a fast clicking noise, so we tried to push start it and it wouldnt start, we then jumped it off his truck and it started, but the sputtering got alot worse and it would try to die when i stepped on the gas i would have to push the gas alot really fast to keep it running and while in first gear witht he gas floored it would go and stop and go and stop like it was trying to die until i switched to second gear it got a little better but still felt like it was bogging out if thats the word u would call it(serious lack of poower then power then lack of again.) i am currently jobless and i have an interview coming up and if i dont get this fixed i will not be able to get a job lol. so i would appreciate quick feedback. and i spent 3 hours going through forums looking for my problems i found some that were unreplied to so that just tell me maybe noone can help me:(
and for the info it is a 92 nissan sentra se 1.6l manual tranny

i dont think its the cat, it sounds to me like the computer isnt reading what the air fuel ratio is and its either dumping too much or not enough fuel into it, something like that would either be an o2 sensor, mass airflow sensor, or maybe even a throttle position sensor, but to me i seem to be leaning more to the mass airflow sensor, check to make sure that its hooked up right. i dont know but do you have any friends with the same motor that may let you swap theirs just to see if its the part that needs replacing?

no i am the only person aroud my town with a car like this their is a lack of nissans of any sort in town. i took all the sensors i could find apart and cleaned them with contact cleaner and put them back in to see if it would help and once again the batt wazs dead so i took the batt out of my friend truck and went to put the battery clamp back on but the clamp broke off(grrrrrrr) so i had to hit up autozone for new terminal clamp and post cleaner. so hopefully when i get out there in a few minutes and fix it it will work itself out. also i noticed in a previously posted topic that my maf might be on backwars so i will also check to make sure it is pointing in the right direction. i will post back in a few minutes with the outtake

If you dont have an aftermarket intake then there is no chance the MAF is backwords. Check the ECU codes. There is a post about how to check them. Little light will blink certain ways kinda like Morse code. That will be the easiest way to see if a sensor is having issues. Have you looked at the cap and rotor on the distributor? Have you recently pulled the spark plug wires? Go ahead and check to make sure they are in the right order. Other than that I would look at the ground for the battery an any other grounds you can see.
