Hey guys, I'm fixing to be the new owner of a 1997 Nissan Pickup, and had a few questions. I come from the world of hondas, and the endless possibilities of engine swaps, jdm parts, etc...clean mods to really make a ride nice, fun, and sexy. I was curious if there is any potential for this truck...

I didnt really plan on leaving the honda scene, but I really needed a truck, and this one just seems to call my name.

First and foremost, I want it to be reliable. It has 99k miles on it. Is there any major maintenance that needs to be done? Timing belt? Im not afraid of working on it myself...helms manual will the first thing I buy for her.

Also, I am a fan of suspension upgrades...Is there any hope? I dont expect it to handle like my integra, but would love a smooth ride, maybe a little lowering.

Are there any engine swaps available require minimal fabrication to the chassis? I dont plan on racing really, but prefer to have a little pep on the streets.

Well, I look forward, hopefully, to some advice on what clean mods I can do to make this ride a little more than just a small truck. I live in Tx where big trucks rule, and small trucks are gay. lol.

these trucks run forever, you dont have a timing belt you have a timing chain. only thing is the guide will wear out causing a slight rattle on start ups then its gone after 5 - 10 secs. there arent many aftermarket items for the trucks but there are some. here are a few sites:

One thing that I found that is alot better than any repair manual is AllDatadiy.com They are an online repair manual which features most diagrams, repair into, Tech service bullentins, etc........I get alot more info from there as opposed to the Hanyes manual I have.

This board provides alots of useful info also......probably could not have done my timing chain without the write-up on this board.

but if you lower it it makes it more of a small truck (nothing wrong with that mines lowered and i like it)
