I just picked up an 87 Hardbody with 92000 miles on it. It ran horrible (idled really low but smelled like it was runnign rich) when i got it so i swapped out the plugs and wires now it idles at like 2500-3000 in park but when its in gear it purrs. does anyone kno how i can fix the high idle?

The high idle might be due to a bad "wax kit" or thermo element (samething)
Its mounted on the throttle chamber, water hose going to it..
Thats what was causing my high idle issue..

if its got the ka24e in it there is also a screw on the side of the ecu also used for diagnosis itll tell you witch way to turn it if its all the down then do wat the guys above said

ya ur prolly right my 90HB idled @ bout 1000-1200 thought it was vacuum went through it and nothing then i replaced that little sensor for water going through the intake and that cured her hope it helps

they went to injected 11/85 (1st HB) the Sport Truck(very few) 720's 85 & 86 were injected also...
the Z24 lasted until 89, in 90 they went to the KA24
