Well folks i'm new to the Spec V. I bought the car last month from a girl who appeared to maintain the car well. My problem started yeasterday-purchased the car 2002 spec v with 32k on her and a aem intake relocated behind the driver front wheel as well as a stainless steel header. All work looked like it was compleated cleanly and the car ran great. 2k later it starts to make a ticking noise coming from the passanger side of the engine, i pull over to find she is 2 quarts low on oil (does not leak a drop). I put the oil in and head over to have it changed but the ticking is still there (louder under a load) starts around 1800 and goes to 3400. At idle it is not that loud but while moving it comes on loud right at about 2500 rpm's in every gear. If im cruising at 60 in 6th there is no noise but drop it into 5th and apply light pressure to the pedal and it's back if i stomp on it there is no noise. Any clue what i could be missing here. Thanks guys

I'll assume i'll need to bring it somewhere so any suggustion on a good nissan shop on Long Island

Here is a picture of where the noise is coming from. It almost sounds like a marble in a tin can. See arrows There is also some writing on the case that says NC.

(large arrow is where noise is and the small arrow is the letters NC).

Noise still ticking, Nissan told me it was normal after changing a coil and 1 injector and $780 later. I will drive this POS until it dies and replace the engine, also seems to drink about a quart of oil every 1k miles. Will need a place to do the change if anyone has any ideas let me know (in NY metro or long island area)

Shoulds exactly like what my jetta did when the oil pick up on the bottom of my oil pan went dry in a hard corner and caused my rod bearing to over heat and deform.... in other words, i think you spun a rod bearing which is very probable if you were low on oil.

You are probably low on oil because of the precat dust scorning up the cylinders issues with the QR25DE.... fun

Check you valves also, may need to get a job done on them.

i had the same problem with an escort i had, try a good engine cleaner and then change the oil, when you run low on oil for an extended period of time it gets sludged up and can clog oil passeges in your lifters therefore giving you a lifter tick, you could be leaking oil through your valve stem seals which is where the oil is going, just be sure to keep an eye on your oil level to prevent farther damage.

WELL... this happened to mine... :(

I just took my 03 sentra spec-v to nissan yesterday... and they have confirmed that my precat has basically fallen into pieces.. and they have been sucked into my motor!.. I only have 70,000 km on it...

I had been telling them for the last year and a half that this was my problem!.. I guess they finally realized that I getting angry.. especially since I was going through a liter of oil in less that 750 KM's!!!!!!

well, i get a NEW MOTOR in two weeks!!.... WOOHOO!!!!... there is an 8 year / 140,000 km warranty on the pre-cat... and if it fails like mine did.. it's all covered!!!!...

sure hope the new Pre-cat is better!... LOL...

It's not any better. I replied to another one of your posts in a different thread. Get an aftermarket header ASAP (after the new motor of course)

Does anyone know where the 8 year/ 140k cat warranty info is located?? My service advisor was tolk on 80k was the limit which does kind of sound a little off since the first major service inspection on the Specs don't kick in until the 100k range.
