Hi , my wife returned home parked in the driveway with her 2019 Rogue and a half hour later the rear window exploded outward . There was glass all over the driveway with 2 large holes in the rear window . It was not a real hot day , no a/c was used prior to coming home and we always use the power lift gate function so it has never been slammed shut. There is 35000 km on it and is still under warranty. Spoke to the dealer where we bought it , they confirmed the warranty and spoke to Nissan Canada and told us it will not be covered. I then spoke to Nissan Canada had a nice lengthy conversation and they also said it will not be covered and I should go through my Insurance. I told them that we did nothing wrong to cause the situation and it should be covered. Why should I put this through the insurance and have a claim put against me which will cause my insurance premium to now go up. So I got a couple quotes from auto glass repair shops and it will cost me $375 plus tax for the repair & Nissan dealer wanted over $1000 to do the same repair adding insult to injury!
The auto glass repair shop that is doing the repair told me Nissan is no longer using auto glass made in North America and they are buying cheap glass from China which is half the thickness and quality . I am so very thankful no family member was standing near the vehicle when the glass exploded. I am now looking into switching manufactures as my family safety is of the upmost importance and apparently not all that important to Nissan !

Hi! This happened to me yesterday!! I was just sitting in my car and literally thought someone shot at me. It was so scary. It’s at the dealer now and they pulled the “you’re the first one this happened to” and I already can tell they’re going to make me pay which is ridiculous. Thinking of calling Nissan corporate if possible and point them to this thread.

This just happened to my 2021 Nissan rogue the other day. Opened door, sat in the driver seat, shut the door and the rear window shattered. It was a beautiful 70° day, nothing had hit my car, it was parked in my driveway and hadn’t been driven for about 36 hours, and I live on a quiet street in suburbia. It scared me when it shattered as I didn’t know what the heck happened. When I looked at the window I just stood there and stared in disbelief. in each of the four corners it was shattered. I’m going to try to get reimbursed for this from Nissan but this is definitely a problem with their vehicles and there should be a recall.

Just a suggestion, it's not impossible there was a flaw in the glass or an impact that happened on the road but didn't shatter until later. I'll just say it's very unusual, we see thousands of gen2 Rogues in and out of our dealership and I've never seen a rear pane shatter for no reason. I didn't mean your car was baking, either, sorry if it sounded that way. When a car shuts down on a sunny spring day there's always a bit of temperature rise and some positive cabin pressure that comes with it, so injured panes blowing out and not in aren't uncommon.
The exact same thing happened to me. I have a 2021 Nissan Rogue as a company car. I had just dropped my son off at the ice rink and went and parked the car. My mother and I sat in the car and talked for about ten minutes because we had time to kill before his hockey game started. As we were walking up to the ice rink, we heard a loud bang and I looked back and saw glass flying onto the pavement. We were about 50 yards or so away from the car and no one was near it and nothing came in contact with it. At first I thought someone had shot a bullet at my car. I had no idea what was going on and told my mother to stay back. Once I got up to the car, I saw two holes on each side of the rear windshield. I couldn't believe what I was seeing and thought that nobody would believe me. I immediately called my boss, the fleet company, roadside assistance and the insurance company. The insurance company passed me off to Safelite and they told me that the price to fix it was $999.00... The deductible for the insurance is $1,000 so that is a very convenient price for them and there was nothing else I could do. They also did not have the part and I had to wait for two weeks. I went to Lowe's and bought a 10 dollar thick clear plastic shower curtain and duct taped it on. It worked well because you could see through it and it was thick so it did not blow in the wind. My company had to pay the bill for this but it was still a gigantic pain in the butt. I still feel like people do not believe me when I tell them this story. View attachment 8281
We had our Rogue for 3 weeks and heard Loud boom, rear window exploded outward; 2 holes, then continued to break all across.

I had this happen to my 2021 Nissan Rogue. I work from home and I was sitting at my desk and heard a boom. I thought that it was somewhere in the neighborhood. I got into my car to get my granddaughter from the bus stop. When I shut my door, the back window shattered. Earlier this summer I had a broken right passenger window that did the same thing, but we thought that maybe the lawnmower caused that.
I haven't ever had to replace windows, other than windshields, in any of my cars. I've been driving since 1976! I think that Nissan makes their windows thin or something! A re-call would be nice. I don't want my insurance to go up with having to replace these windows!

Same thing happened to my Altima. Out of no where the rear window shatter. So that morning my windows was foggy so I turned on the heater to clear the fog. As I was driving I was looking in the rear view mirror I saw burnt mark in the middle of the window. I thought it was just something on the window. Then maybe about 10 mins of driving I heard a loud bang. I kind of know it was the window that shattered. What’s the hell is going on with these Nissan cars!

The end of last month. We ran errands in my pickup. We get home. I decided to get stuff out of my wife's car. I open the hatch and hear a broken glass sound. I look up to notice the rear window is shattered. What the???

I then remember hearing a muffled explosion late at night a couple nights prior that lightly vibrated our house. I even went outside and saw nothing.

We took our vehicle to a local Nissan. I told them what I saw online. So they supposedly called engineering dept and other parts of Nissan. All said that there was NO REPORTED PROBLEMS!! Seriously???

Obviously there's some kind of design flaw. Obviously Nissan won't take responsibility for this! Obviously WE won't purchase another Nissan. Maybe a group lawsuit might need to take place. We also had the same two holes.

Has anyone had any luck getting anything out of Nissan for this? I just had an extremely unproductive conversation with consumer affairs there, but I woke up to my rear windshield blown out this morning. No drastic weather changes overnight, know anything. They will take no responsibility despite this clearly being a wide set issue.

This happened to me yesterday with a Nissan Rogue car rental. I had used the rear defrost in the morning on the way to work, no issues. Parked the car and by lunch time, the rear glass had shattered and blown outward. It was quite bowed as well. I definitely feel it had something to do with the rear defrost as I didn’t even open or close the back door at all.

Ok, nissan kick 2024, 460 miles only, just made my second payment, used my read defrost this morning. Driving a long. No traffic near me. Rear window blew up. Scared the crap out of me. Pulled over to check to see if something hit me. Nope, widow blown on its own. I'm sitting at the nissan place I bought it from just last month. We shall see what they say.

Yeah man, I feel your pain. Mine is also a 2024 Nissan Kicks and only has like 8,000 miles on it, parked under a carport, there was one singular loud pop that the whole neighborhood heard and every inch of the rear window was completely shattered. I was told by Nissan that they couldn't do any tests or determine the reason for the glass shattering since it was completely shattered...
