Just received the new Hot Shot Headers and CAI, getting ready to install but Hot Shot never sent the instructions. Has anyone out there installed any of the Hot Shot products? Any advice or suggestions for me before I start?

Thanks,

Brian

header

;) check the npm project spec v they have a write up on how to put the header on, But they left out what tools will be needed. So here is the list.

breaker bar
torque wrench
10mm socket
10mm wrench
14mm socket
14mm deep well socket
flat head screw driver
12mm socket
jack

Thanks

How long did it take you to install the headers? Do you have any instructions on the CAI?
header

 It took me about 2hrs to put the header in also I forgot you will need a 14mm wrench. As for the intake, Its not hard to put in but the factory intake takes a while to remove. I do not have a tool list but many of the same tools are used for the intake install.
I would suggest when you put the cai in to remove your drivers side wheel and fender lining it will make your life much easier.

Installed CAI

Ok, it only took me 1.5 hours to put the CAI in and I will be installing the Hot Shot headers this evening - wish me luck. Also, for those of you with a Stromung exhaust, how do they sound? where can I find one with a relatively low price tag?
exhaust

Stromung makes one of the better quality exhausts, but you will pay for it. Stromung also will place a 02 bung on the midpipe so you will not have to do it when you purchase your exhaust. The bung is needed to turn off your ses/mil light. I just had them make me a new midpipe with the o2 bung and a resonator. It should get here on monday. Make shure to get a resonator with your exhaust what ever brand you decide on. My car sounds like a chain saw with out the resonator. Also be carefull the studs on the exhaust manifold strip out easy. I did when I put mine on I had to drill and tap the block and install a heli coil to fix the problem. The factory studs are supposed to be 10mm but when I measured them I found them to be .006 under. So use a torque wrench and everything should go fine. Good luck

Stromung Exhaust

How does it sound? I really don't want to sound like one of those high pitched annoying civics. I was looking for more of a deep racing type sound. Where did you order yours from?
STROMUNG EXHAUST

The exhaust has deep sound to it and is not very loud. I purchased my exhaust directly from stromung. call scott 1-714-596-2237 remeber get the resonator and the o2 bung. He has already done this for me so it should be no problem for you. Midpipe will arrive monday I will take pics and let you know how the sound is with the resonator should be much better. I have a loud resonating tone in 1st and 2nd.

Stromung Exhaust

Definitely let me know how it works out. I'm sort of working on a budget between the Z and Spec-V - would you mind letting me know approximately how much you paid for Stromung exhaust? It is Cat-Back right?

Brian
stromung

Yes its a catback. I think it runs about $550-580.00 plus $11.00 for the o2 bung but its worth it. Scott may not be charging for the O2 bung because it might become standard feature on his exhaust products for nissans.

z cars are cool my dad is buying a new 350z.... I want to drive it!!

was it worth it

HI,

I wanted to ask those of you who have installed the Hot Shot CAI if it is worth it and if anyone has done a Dyno test. I understand that with this one the chances of getting water in it are small. I noticed there is a large wire in the place where the filter goes in the wheelwell; does this get in the way?

I am new to the forum and just recently bought a Spec V. I like the car but I think there may be something to the paint issue that we have heard about. I have the silver color and have already noticed some clips on the hood very quickly. This may a problem we should all monitor closely and complain to Nissan about if it seems to be a problem for all. I have a 98 (silver) Jeep Grand Cherokee and the paint on the hood has held up very well and it is almost 5 years old now not 2 weeks.

Header and CAI

Personally, I think that the CAI and Headers are well worth it - you will definitely feel the hp gain. What wire are you talking about? The CAI is a complete stock swap except for making a larger hole between the battery and fender (suggest you remove the battery before installation). Also, be sure to purchase some wide trailer weatherstipping ($5 @ autozone) you can use this to seal the metal hole otherwise as you drive you will notice a screeching/ scratching sound from the CAI rubbing against the hole.

I have the molten silver Spec-V and haven't noticed any paint defaults yet. But, will keep an eye on it.
Hay whats going on. Well i have read this post and i love it. Have both CAI and Header from Hotshot. As for the screeching sound from the CAI. John owner of hotshot is going to come up with some kind of bracket for it. Also for those who have not installed there CAI and need help look at this months NPM issue it will help you out.

Thanks,
Anthony

CAI Bracket

Definitely post when the new bracket will be released, that screeching noise is so annoying.

Brian
I'll definately post when the bracket gets made and hopefully a picture of it to.

clamp

a bracket can be made from a 3.5 hose clamp and some plumbers tape
