Hi Gentlemen, I just recently replaced my timing belt and tensioner on a 2000 pathfinder. I noticed that after it was replaced, I could hear a slight winding noise coming from the belt cover. Is this a normal noise for new timing belt and will it eventually go away? Or is something too tight, like the tensioner?

Have any of you guys experienced this? I also replaced the water pump.

The timing belt is too tight if it's whining. I did the same exact thing on mine once and took it by a dealership to ask one of the techs if he thought it was a bad noise or not...he says hell no, go take that cover back off and loosen the belt before you break the end off one of the cams. :) Good rule of thumb for timing belt tension: if you can grasp it between the cam pulleys and twist the belt 90 degrees it's good.

Thank you for the advice. I will bring the truck back in on Monday. I suspected that it was too tight. I just wasn't sure if there was a break in period on a new belt. again thanks for your reply.
