Hello,
New member here. I have a 2015 Nissan Murano that has sludge in the engine. It only have 51,000 miles. And yes, I changed the oil.... At every start up, I get BIG puffs of white smoke. I really like Nissan, as this is my second Nissan vehicle, but this sludge issue is changing my mind. Has anyone else had or have this problem. Everyone tells me to trade it in. Nissan says I need a new engine. Any suggestions or fix?

Looks like this is common. I just had my 2018 towed into the dealership . It only has 31,000 and white smoke is coming out of the tailpipes. I was given the same excuse most of you posted. They tried to say it was lack of maintenance on my end (not true) and I need a new engine at a whopping 15,000 … we filed a complaint. That’s so crazy these Nissans are having thus problem.
Did your complaint get you anywhere? I'm at a loss as to what to do. My 2017 Murano with 76000 miles just started doing this intermittent smoking. Dealership tells me it's sludge from improper maintenance and I need a new engine. There's no way I missed an oil change
This can apply to Muranos too, it's just less frequent than in Pathies. If one of your PCV hoses is collapsed, it represents a warrantable failure and not a maintenance issue:
We've recently found a hidden problem on a few Pathy sludge engines that might be your issue. On two of them, the hose connecting the plenum to the rear valve cover was delaminated internally and collapsed on itself. This basically killed the PCV system and caused the engines to sludge up even though good maintenance was observed. Because the delamination was internal to the hose, the only external evidence was a slight "soft spot" in the rubber. The shop should check for this, and if found, it represents a component failure which your extended warranty should cover.

See the post directly above and make sure they checked it. Better yet, tell them you want to see the PCV and breather hoses for yourself. We've seen more than one of these cases where collapsed PCV hoses sludged an otherwise well-maintained engine.
Hi I am having the same problem with my 2015 Murano 47k miles. Nissan says I need a new engine for $11,500. I’m so angry. I want to trash them all over social media. This is my 3rd Nissan. Never again.
I have a 2017 Nissan Murano Platinum 70,000 miles doing exact same thing used the dealer for all oil changes and took to dealer they said sludge in motor needs a new engine. The quoted me a price around 8,000$. Tech at Nissan told me they have started seeing this issue a lot on newer Nissans.
Yes! My car has been in dealership parking lot for almost six months because this issue! I DROVE my vehicle to dealership for $100 fix and they called an hour later saying my engine failed and it sold cost $14,000. I thought she was joking. Over this time I have provided more than enough documentation to prove my maintenance was up to manual and contract spec. They still have given me ZERO gratitude and no reimbursement. They refuse to even bargain. They offered me to file bankruptcy as an alternative… I’m disputing everything so it’s very nice to get acquainted here.
