hey guys i just picked up my new (to me) 1990 240 bout 30 mins ago and i love it already but there is one tiny problem the car seems to want to die every once and while when i stop and i was wondering what the problem is because it starts right back up but i was thinking it was some kind of idle sensor any help is appreciated

I have the same or simmilar issue with my 1991 240, it's got a DOHC though, but the cause might be the same, I don't know exactly what is wrong, but it doesn't seem to affect driving, just when you put the clutch in the idle almost dies, I was told it might have something to do with the Coolant temperature sensor, but I haven't checked into it...I would like to find out what is causing this too!

well i have talked to a few people and they seem to think that maybe if i took the throttle body off the the car and clean it that it might fix the problem because carbon build-up on it can cause it to stick and not barely open to allow the car to idle normally

Before you do all that labor..... Make sure you do not have a leak or bad air tube from the MAF back to the TB.
As, when a signal is misinterpretted by the sensors, stumbling/dieing will also happen.
Vacumm Lines are NOTORIOUS for this.

would a vacuum leak also cause high idleing? because i took the throttle body off today and cleaned it and it stopped the wanting to die part but now it idles way to high at around 2000 rpms
