Can anyone tell me EXACTLY and in detail what the "Neutral Position Switch" does for the vehicle. I know that it provides a ground to the ECU when the vehicle is in neutral, and the circuit is open in any gear. I know that it can give a MIL (code Po705) if it does not change position between start and run. But I cannot find in any of my tech manuals what it is for......what function it serves. Is it something to do with fuel cutoff? In my schematic, it is the MT version of the Neutral Safety Switch circuit in an AT model (or at least it's drawn that way), but I know it has nothing to do with neutral safety during starting. Even called a local Nissan dealer and they couldn't tell me (now that's scarey).....

Can anyone help my curiosity?
By the way......I searched.
