I've been thinking about getting my rims powdercoated. Right now, well for a while actually, I've been thinking of having them done in gold (don't know if its really gold but I see them on alot of WRXs). The local paintshop quoted me at $40-$70 a rim depending on how much prep they have to do but my main issue is this:

I'd need something to compliment that color. A few people have suggested that I get stickers or graphics put on my car, and I've given it very little consideration (instead of the usual 'HELL NO"). The only other alternative is to get my interior to match, but as far as colors go for sport seats (like Momo), I've only seen black/yellow- which would throw things off. Right now I am at a loss on how to go about this: leave the rims as is and just get my interior done in black/carbon-fiber (or some other color), or what. :(

A person or two have said that gold rims on a black 14 would be ugly as sin, but several others think it would look hot. (never actually seen one with gold rims, but a photoshop would be nice).

I need some suggestions so I can either figure out how to go about this, or just dismiss the idea. Thanks

First off what color is your car? Bronze wheels can compliment many colors.............black, red, yellow, blue. And IMO that quote sounds about right. Also i think duplicolor has a bronze wheel paint and it probably looks quite good. Also some people (cough 1.6pete cough) have a weird sexual fetish with bronze wheels, ask his opinion.

well see, you can powdercoat your rims, but that doesnt really look good, and it comes off earlier than paint, and it is less glossy. but if you go with paint, then it is better, because they usually put three coats plus the clear coat which makes it shine. so paint would be better, also are you talking about se-r rims or what?

My bad all. Here's a pic of my car:

And here's a closeup of the rims (Axis):

I'm kinda like 1.6pete. I just have a thing for broze/gold rims, but at the same time I like how these rims are 'as is'.

Mak786- I know that powdercoats are less glssy than paint, but I've actually heard opposite as far as peeling goes. Maybe the information I got was mistaken?

I'm leaning heavily towards the black/carbon-fiber interior, but nothing on the car would match the rims.

there is a much wider range of colors and finishes that can be acquired with powdercoating these days

it can be just as full and glossy as almost any paint (not that i have anything against painting, its just that powdercoating is much better)

personally, im getting my Rotas done in gold/bronze here in the next few months...so you can guess that i like the gold/bronze look

IMO they would look really nice

Powder coating last longer and is more durable than using a rattle can. The only good thing about rattle canning your wheels is that if you scratch them, you can touch them up on the spot. With powder coating, if you scratch your wheel, you have to have the whole wheel redone, because it's hard to match the colors.

Just my 2 cents...
